I was commissioned to knit a 12’ X 22’ ceiling for a lobby connecting two popular restaurants in Montclair, New Jersey: Egan and Sons Pub and Halcyon Seafood Brasserie. The original idea that evolved from discussions with the owners, Chris and Sharon Egan, was a knit-paneled work that consisted of multiple colors of the ocean. Shortly after we discussed this plan, I went on vacation to the island of Antigua in the Caribbean. On the plane ride home, a brilliant sunset viewed from my window provided a unique and exciting idea as an alternative for the project. The design for the sunset was selected and the result was thirty-three knitted panels that were comprised, in totality, of 250 colors of thread.
